British Columbia has fixed dates for provincial general elections. The next British Columbia general election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
On May 12, 2009, at the same time as 2009 British Columbia general election, a second referendum was held on electoral reform, and British Columbians voted on whether to adopt the BC-STV electoral system or keep the current first past the post system.
The BC-STV proposal was defeated and BC will stick with the first past the post electoral system.
