To be a candidate in a Canadian federal election you have to meet most of the same requirements as for voting. You have to be a Canadian citizen at least 18 years old by election day, and not be ineligible for other reasons, such as having broken election laws. You don't actually have to live in the riding or be on the voters list for the riding you run in, although it wouldn't help your chances if you weren't.
Most candidates have their nominations endorsed by a registered political party. Nomination procedures used by political parties to nominate their candidates are up to the rules of each party.
Here's how to find the candidates running in the 2011 federal election, by major party or by riding, or get the complete list.
Search for the Conservative Party candidate in your riding by province or by postal code.
